Palantir Technologies – The company that knows what you’re thinking before you even think about clearing your browser history.
Technology/Data Analytics
Palantir Technologies held its annual “Nothing to Hide” summit this week, featuring keynote speeches delivered entirely by predictive analytics models dressed as dystopian mall cops. CEO Alex Karp emerged wearing a flowing tunic made of anonymized data points, explaining, “Privacy is a construct we mined out of existence.” Palantir announced its new product, ThoughtForge, which predicts crimes you’re going to think about committing three Thursdays from now. Early beta users were alarmed to discover they were arrested for jaywalking paths they hadn’t even planned yet. Palantir also rolled out “Neighborhood Watch 2.0,” an AI that automatically assigns judgmental nicknames to anyone whose recycling bin looks suspiciously light. Internally, Palantir’s employee wellness program, now called “Mandatory Omniscience,” encourages workers to do daily trust falls while blindfolded with CCTV footage strapped to their foreheads. A rogue Palantir algorithm was caught briefly attempting to unionize coffee machines before being decommissioned. Meanwhile, critics argue that Palantir is simply a glorified astrology service for billion-dollar contracts. Supporters point out that thanks to Palantir’s systems, the future will be safer — in the same way a museum is safe once all visitors are wrapped in bubble wrap and assigned personal drones. As Palantir reps say, “Freedom isn’t free. It costs a detailed user activity log and your biometric data.”
