Bathroom Selfies
“I Just Wanted to Show Off My Jawline. Now I’m in the MoMA.”
Trevor Gantz, 22, snapped a moody selfie in a Shell station bathroom while waiting for his taquitos to microwave. Lit by a flickering fluorescent bulb and framed by a mural of plumbing graffiti, the photo–titled *#GrimeAndShine*–was accidentally uploaded to a photo contest his phone was auto-enrolled in by a now-defunct app.
“I didn’t mean for anyone to see it,” Trevor said. “I was trying to look contemplative while holding a Mountain Dew Baja Blast and thinking about my taxes.”
The photo was praised by critics as “a raw commentary on urban decay and snack-based longing.” One judge called it “the spiritual cousin of a Caravaggio if Caravaggio had a nicotine habit and used TikTok.”
Trevor was flown to New York, where he posed awkwardly next to a wall-sized print of his own confused face next to a urinal with inspirational Sharpie quotes.
He now offers bathroom photography workshops titled *Flush with Emotion.* Students learn lighting, posture, and how to angle the phone to minimize soap dispenser reflection.
Trevor remains humble. “At the end of the day, I’m just a guy who peed, posed, and changed the culture.”
