Customers at Café Nebula in Austin were confused when barista Taryn began rating them with zodiac symbols instead of names. “You’re a Pisces? Expect a lukewarm latte. My chart says you’re clingy,” she said, handing one regular a decaf with a Post-it reading “emotional liability.”
After several complaints, Taryn explained that her Scorpio placement makes her “honest, intense, and selectively caffeinated.”
She redesigned the tip jar to read: “Tips for your Sign’s Survival” and offered mini horoscopes with each drink. Libra? “You’ll spill it.” Gemini? “It’s already cold.”
Her coworkers report that she’s started only restocking syrups if Mercury is direct, and once denied espresso to a Leo claiming “you don’t need more confidence.”
Managers are torn. Customer engagement is up. Complaints are also up. But so is TikTok engagement, where Taryn’s videos–under the handle @MoodyMoonMilk–get millions of views for captions like “I insulted a Taurus with latte art.”
