Mall Santas on Strike
“We’re Jolly, Not Desperate. Pay Us in More Than Candy Canes.”
Chaos erupted in malls across America this week as the Brotherhood of Seasonal Santas (BoSS) went on strike, citing low pay, peppermint-related trauma, and a lack of dental coverage for years of taffy-related molar damage. Mall management was caught off guard as Santas laid down their bells and fake beards and marched out chanting, “No dental, no jingle.”
“It’s not just about the cookies,” said longtime Santa Gerald “Frostbeard” Ingersoll. “It’s about dignity, back support, and being allowed to say ‘Happy Holidays’ without getting shivved by an elf.”
Parents were left trying to explain the absence. “I told my son Santa outsourced to FedEx this year,” said one mom as her toddler screamed in front of a snowflake backdrop manned by a confused intern dressed as Olaf.
The demands include hourly pay above minimum wage, dental and vision insurance, sleigh mileage reimbursement, beard conditioner stipends, and hazard pay for “glitter inhalation and overly enthusiastic toddlers.”
Strike footage shows rows of Santas picketing outside shopping centers, waving signs like “Slay Pay Now” and “This Lap Ain’t Free.” One group staged a slow-motion reindeer conga through a Macy’s atrium before being escorted out by mall cops riding Segways and crushed dreams.
BoSS President Kris O’Kane stated, “We give joy, we get herniated discs. We demand respect–or at least an ergonomic throne.”
Malls have responded by deploying inflatable Santa replacements and pre-recorded ho-ho-ho tracks. The effect has been described as “mildly festive, mostly haunted.”
Negotiations are ongoing, but insiders say Mrs. Claus has entered the fray and “she’s not baking peace cookies this time.”
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
