First Amphibian Emmy Nominee Confirmed
In a move that has left Hollywood both confused and Googling “amphibian eligibility requirements,” Donatello has officially become the first non-human, non-actor, sewer-adjacent being to receive an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Variety Talk Series.
“This is historic,” said the Television Academy president, while handing the press release to a confused salamander. “We’re recognizing the full range of voices, even those who live in radioactive puddles.”
Donatello’s nomination packet included clips of his now-famous “Infrastructure Breakdown” segment and his interview with a sentient AI blender about wage inequality. One Emmy voter wrote in the margins, “Is this performance art, or is it performance plumbing?”
Frontrunner John Oliver graciously tweeted: “Congrats to Donatello. Finally, someone with the guts to tackle sewer politics head-on.”
Las Vegas has him as a 3:1 favorite to win, though Oscar the Grouch is reportedly protesting outside the ceremony, claiming species bias.
CBS plans to outfit Donatello in a tuxedo fashioned from recycled pizza boxes and VHS tape. When reached for comment, Donnie said, “Awards are cool, but have you ever optimized a city’s sewer grid during a live broadcast?”
Give this turtle his trophy. He earned it.
