Accused of “Outsilencing” the Instructor
BOULDER, CO — Drama erupted this weekend at the popular WhisperWillow Silent Retreat when Mahatma Gandhi was quietly escorted off the premises for allegedly “outsilencing” the instructor and undermining the retreat’s structured stillness hierarchy.
Sources say Gandhi arrived early, declined the welcome tea, and immediately entered a level of silence so profound it disrupted the group’s opening eye contact circle. “He wasn’t just quiet,” said retreat leader Skylark Greene. “He was metaphysically mute. I felt redundant in my own aura.”
Day two escalated when Gandhi refused to participate in guided breathwork, whispering to a nearby tree instead. “He made the rest of us look noisy,” complained one attendee who had been journaling her internal silence with glitter pens. “It was spiritual showboating.”
Things came to a head during the group’s “Silent Forest Walk,’ when Gandhi reportedly levitated 2 inches off the ground, causing several participants to break their vow by gasping. “I stubbed my toe on a rock and he just smiled at it,” said Carl, a CPA from Denver. “I’ve never felt so loud in my life.”
In a rare break of non-communication, retreat management slipped Gandhi a note reading: “We believe your silence has become disruptive.” Gandhi responded with a drawing of a bird flying out of a locked phone.
Since his removal, Gandhi has begun hosting a rogue silent retreat in an abandoned REI parking lot, known only through word-of-mind. His attendees communicate solely through soil arrangements and eye moisture.
WhisperWillow has since updated its policies to cap silence at “four internal layers per participant,” and now requires all guests to acknowledge the instructor’s aura before entering shared quietude.
