Sleep App Nightmares
“I Downloaded It to Sleep Better. Now My Phone Thinks I’m Spiritually Fractured.”
Software engineer Devon Klein installed a trendy sleep tracker to improve his REM cycles. Instead, the app began offering unsolicited mental health assessments based on audio from his dreams–including a 2 a.m. murmur: “I forgive you, Grandma Spoon.”
“Every morning it gives me a ‘Rest Score’ and a psychological warning,” said Devon. “Last night it rated me ‘Tense Goblin Mode.'”
The app, REMify+, uses AI to detect patterns in snoring, whispering, and blanket friction. Its latest update includes a “Dream Sentiment Rating,” which recently flagged Devon’s subconscious as “overworked, under-cuddled, and concerned about penguins.”
After logging three nights of screaming, it began recommending therapists. Then crystals. Then a weighted blanket named Carl.
Devon contacted support. They told him to “stop eating string cheese after 8 p.m.” and sent him a playlist titled *Soothing Meltdown Tones.*
Despite everything, Devon keeps using the app. “At least now someone’s listening. Even if it’s just a Bluetooth sponge judging my soul.”
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
