Over-the-Top Cosplay
“He Said He Was There for Fan Service and Financial Literacy.”
Comic-Con attendees in Boise were stunned this weekend when self-proclaimed “cosplay maximalist” Trent Donahue showed up dressed as a fully functional ATM machine. Complete with card slot, receipt printer, and mildly judgmental tone, the costume dispensed both dollar bills and unsolicited budgeting tips.
“I asked for $5, it gave me $3 and said, ‘You need to rethink your spending habits,'” said one attendee. “Then it spit out a coupon for hummus.”
The costume, powered by a Raspberry Pi and several questionable PayPal APIs, was made of spray-painted cardboard, tinfoil, and deep financial trauma. Inside, Trent managed the machinery while sipping cold brew and whispering phrases like “Your checking account is crying.”
Fans formed a line to withdraw what he called “emotional currency.” Each receipt featured either a motivational quote, a horoscope, or a reminder to stop Venmoing your ex.
Con officials were initially alarmed until Trent offered a full refund to anyone who asked “in their best Yoda voice.”
One security guard reportedly tried to arrest him, but Trent printed a receipt that said “Transaction denied. Seek therapy.” The guard walked away quietly.
Trent’s next project is a cosplay of the IRS. “I’ll appear unannounced and demand paperwork.”
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
