Overhyped Gadgets
“It Knows When I’m Sad-Chewing. I Didn’t Ask It To.”
Tech startup BiteSync unveiled its flagship product, the “iLadle,” a $399 smart spoon designed to promote mindful eating by tracking bite speed, caloric intention, and emotional chewing rhythms. Early adopters are now reporting more anxiety than enlightenment.
“It vibrates if I eat too fast,” said beta tester Sharon Wu. “And it screams ‘Reflect!’ if I hover over anything beige.”
The spoon syncs to a proprietary app called *BiteWisely*, which sends push notifications like “Pause. Feel the broth. Question your patterns.”
One user reported the spoon refused to lift ice cream until she completed a gratitude meditation. Another said it kept recommending lentils “with the tone of a disappointed monk.”
Critics say the device is less about eating mindfully and more about becoming emotionally blackmailed by cutlery. “I used to like soup,” one review read. “Now I fear my own mouth.”
Still, tech influencers call it “the Tesla of utensils,” and one Gwyneth-adjacent celebrity said, “It helped me divorce pizza with grace.”
BiteSync has announced an entire product line: forks that track self-worth, knives that recite affirmations, and a spork that negotiates with your inner child.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
