Elaborate Gender-Neutral Pronouns
“It’s Not Just Pronouns. It’s Performance Poetry With Administrative Consequences.”
Performance artist Calliope Lune, formerly known as Darren P., made headlines this week after legally changing their pronouns to “Zeep/Zorp,” igniting both bureaucratic chaos and philosophical conversations across Greater Austin. The DMV, Starbucks, and one confused UPS driver are still recovering.
“When I said ‘Zeep would like a caramel macchiato,’ the barista said ‘God bless you,'” Calliope noted. “But by the second week, they were all fluent.”
Zeep/Zorp was chosen as a tribute to intergalactic grammar and “to deconstruct terrestrial linguistic binaries through intentional absurdity.” Zeep insists it’s not a joke. “Zorp wouldn’t joke about identity,” Zeep added. “Zorp only juggles the construct.”
Reactions have been mixed. Some applaud the innovation, others are still trying to conjugate. One school principal mistakenly called Zeep “Zorpington,” prompting a 3-hour sensitivity seminar.
The DMV attempted to input Zeep/Zorp into their system but crashed four terminals and accidentally flagged Zeep as a Romanian diplomat. Zeep has kept the temporary license as art.
Now offering workshops titled “Beyond He/She/They: Toward Cosmic Conjunctions,” Zeep teaches pronoun flowcharts and identity haiku to baffled HR departments statewide.
Zorp’s next project involves legally identifying as a metaphor. Zeep says, “Language is a dance, and I’m wearing the weird shoes.”
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
