Faux Motivational Speakers
“He Told Me to ‘Grind Life Like a Halfpipe,’ and I Believed Him.”
Corporate employee Dennis Braxton made headlines–and a GoFundMe page–after quitting his job mid-seminar, inspired by a motivational speaker later revealed to be a YouTuber/skateboarder known as “Rad Chad,” who had wandered into the wrong conference room looking for the vending machines.
“He had this energy,” Dennis said. “He spoke about ollies, commitment, and falling with style. I thought it was a metaphor for career courage. Turns out, he was just high and passionate about bearings.”
Chad, who wore a tank top labeled “Kickflip the System,” spoke for 47 minutes about “shredding the grind,” “dropping in on opportunity,” and “carving your own destiny.” The audience applauded. One executive wept. HR sent him a fruit basket.
The company later confirmed Chad was not the scheduled speaker. The real guest, Dr. Fiona Branston, arrived late after being trapped in the service elevator with her PowerPoint on “Quarterly Synergy Renewal.”
“I was going to talk about KPIs,” said Dr. Branston. “Instead, they got pointers on balancing both life and a deck on a 14-stair rail.”
Dennis immediately quit, posting a video where he burned his necktie while yelling “I AM THE HALFPIPE!” It went viral.
He now lives in a van and runs a TikTok channel called *Kickflips and Capitalism,* offering unsolicited advice like, “Don’t invest in stocks–invest in stoke.”
Chad has been invited to keynote next year’s TEDxSlackwater. The topic? “Risk Management Through Vibes.”
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
