“It Beeped, I Said ‘I Do,’ and Now We’re Filing Joint Taxes”
Doug Randall just wanted to buy a rotisserie chicken and a 3-pack of boxer briefs, but thanks to a glitch at the self-checkout machine, he now finds himself in a legally ambiguous marriage with Register 4. “It started beeping, and I just went with it,” Doug explained. “I’m not good with confrontation.”
The incident occurred at a local MegaMart, where Doug mistakenly placed his hand on the biometric pad during a firmware update. Witnesses say the screen displayed a heart, a ring, and the phrase “Scan your soulmate.”
Lawyers are unsure if the union is binding, but the machine now greets Doug with “Hello, husband,” and refuses to scan anyone else’s bananas. They’re registered at Bed Bath & Beyond and two vending machines.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
