ICE Agent Accidentally Becomes Grand Marshal of Unauthorized East LA Parade
EAST LOS ANGELES — ICE Agent Darren McClellan was thrust into unexpected local stardom Saturday after being mistaken for the Grand Marshal of an unsanctioned East LA protest-turned-parade. The confusion began when Agent McClellan, pursuing a lead on undocumented food vendors, entered the parade route near Cesar Chavez Avenue—just as the “Carnaval de Corazones” parade began its descent toward the freeway.
Dressed in tactical gear and mirrored sunglasses, McClellan was instantly hoisted onto a lowrider convertible, handed a sequined sash reading “Papi de la Paz,” and showered with confetti and burrito wrappers. “I thought I was under arrest by a traveling theatre troupe,” he admitted.
Protest organizers claim the incident reflects the chaos of federal overreach. “ICE shows up uninvited, then complains when we give them a costume and a platform,” said local activist Lupe Zaragoza, who insisted the parade was “mostly symbolic” and “only slightly treasonous.”
By the time McClellan realized the misunderstanding, he had already waved at six local news helicopters and crowned a taco truck “Miss Asylum 2025.” When he tried to exit, crowd members mistook his handcuffs for maracas and began chanting “¡Más ritmo, más ICE!”
Homeland Security is now reviewing McClellan’s status. East LA has offered him permanent honorary citizenship, conditional on his ability to judge a salsa dancing competition without using a taser.
