Dumpster Diving Influencers
“Who Needs Whole Foods When You Have Whole Dumpsters?”
In their latest viral stunt, eco-influencers Brody and Sage–better known as @WastelandRoyalty on TikTok–posted a video of themselves fishing a half-eaten tin of expired caviar out of a Beverly Hills dumpster and calling it “artisanal trash-to-table decadence.” The video, shot in cinematic slow-motion and underscored by a remix of Clair de Lune, has garnered over 9.4 million views and sparked a heated debate about sustainability, privilege, and the limits of fermentation.
“People are throwing away luxury,” Sage whispered, holding up the can like a war relic. “We’re reclaiming it. This isn’t trash–it’s post-capitalist treasure.”
Wearing matching jumpsuits made from recycled shopping bags, the pair popped a bottle of champagne (also from the bin, reportedly “vintage adjacent”) and ate the caviar with gold-plated spoons they claim were found behind a Michelin-starred restaurant. “The umami was otherworldly,” Brody declared. “And only slightly tinged with battery acid.”
Food safety experts strongly disagreed. “They’re not taste influencers,” said Dr. Linnea Clapp, a microbiologist. “They’re just playing bacterial roulette for likes.”
The pair describe themselves as “anti-waste tastemakers,” whose mission is to normalize “luxury scrounging.” Past stunts include building a charcuterie board out of expired Lunchables and wearing haute couture stitched entirely from expired Chipotle napkins.
They’ve recently secured brand deals with a kombucha company, a compostable eyeshadow startup, and a high-end dumpster manufacturer called BinSpiration. “We’re not sponsored,” Brody clarified. “We’re partnered in conscious synergy.”
Critics online accuse them of glamorizing poverty. One tweet read, “I dumpster dive to survive, not because it’s ‘deconstructed Whole Foods.'” The couple responded with a two-minute interpretive dance titled “Socioeconomic Fluidity in a Post-Banana Peel Economy.”
They plan to release a cookbook next spring called *Rot and Roll: Recipes for a Decomposing Planet,* featuring dishes like Mold Medley Bruschetta and Dumpster Crème Fraîche. A deluxe edition comes with a scratch-and-sniff lid and a signed plastic fork.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
