Family of Seven Evacuates via Shopping Cart, Breaks World Record
A Tehran-based family of seven has reportedly set a Guinness World Record by evacuating the city using only a single supermarket shopping cart, modified with duct tape, a stroller wheel, and a haunting sense of determination.
Led by patriarch Hossein Karamlou, the family embarked on their journey after their 2004 Peugeot finally gave up and began growing moss. “It was either the cart or carry grandma,” Hossein explained. “And the cart doesn’t complain when you hit potholes.”
Video footage shows all seven family members strategically stacked like luggage in an Emirates cargo hold. The youngest child rides in the cereal section, while grandma occupies the top seat, gripping a thermos of mint tea and shouting road directions with alarming confidence.
Iranian social media hailed them as heroes. “These are the true patriots,” one commenter posted. “They packed up, rolled out, and made it to Qazvin using only willpower and supermarket-grade engineering.”
Authorities were less impressed. A traffic officer attempted to ticket the cart for “unregistered roller-based migration,” but the family rolled away mid-scribble.
According to official Guinness observers (who were originally there to witness someone drink 47 cups of tea), the Karamlous completed 132 kilometers in 36 hours, stopping only for lavash and livestock.
When asked what’s next, Hossein said they’re adding a second cart. “This one will be first class. With seat cushions.”
The family now plans to launch a consulting business for other cart-based evacuees.
