Misfit Book Clubs
“I Thought We Were Reading ‘The Subtle Ferret of Tuscany.’ Turns Out, That’s Not a Book.”
What began as a noble attempt at community enrichment unraveled into literary chaos when the Eastwood Avenue Book Society met last Thursday–only to discover that none of the seven attendees had read the same title. Or, in some cases, real books at all.
“I read *The Mango Manifesto*,” said Pam. “Turns out it was a fruit blog.”
Ron claimed he read *To Grill a Mockingbird*, a barbecue-themed mystery he “found near the propane.” Meanwhile, Carla brought a spiral notebook containing a dream she mistook for a novel called *The Whispering Fabric of Tuesdays.*
The ensuing debate included accusations of gatekeeping, one dramatic reading of a shampoo bottle, and a group vote that replaced next month’s book with “just vibes.”
They have since rebranded as *Book Adjacent Thinkers*, where members are encouraged to “absorb the idea of books through osmosis and Pinterest.”
They meet next week to not discuss *Pride and Prejudice and Pasta Sauce.*
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
