Low-Budget Haunted Hayrides

“It Wasn’t Scary. It Was Confusing. Then It Was Unintentionally Existential.”

The Pine Hollow Cornfield Hayride promised frights and chills for just $5. What attendees got were two theater majors in mismatched sheets, a broken fog machine, and a haunted doll that may have just been a mop in a baby bonnet.

“One guy jumped out and yelled, ‘Boo, Karen!'” said visitor Maxine. “We don’t even know a Karen.”

Instead of chainsaws or creepy music, the ride featured a loop of someone humming “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” through a kazoo and a scarecrow that said, “Hey, do you validate parking?”

Despite–or because of–the chaos, the hayride went viral on TikTok with fans calling it “postmodern horror at its rawest.”

The owner, Dennis, insists the broken effects are “symbolic of the American dream unraveling in the corn.”

The hayride is now fully booked through Halloween. Guests are encouraged to bring flashlights, snacks, and low expectations.

Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.

Jen Statsky was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plains and so does the sarcasm. She later escaped tornado drills for library stacks, graduating from Boston University with a degree in Film and Television—a program she treated as a four-year workshop in writing jokes that could double as social commentary. A stand-up comedian with a taste for the absurd, Statsky cut her teeth in writers’ rooms for late-night comedy before becoming a satirical journalist at Bohiney.com. Her style blends Midwestern plainspokenness with sharp, ironic punchlines, turning even the driest policy debates into material fit for a sold-out comedy club. Whether she’s mocking cultural trends or lampooning political theater, Statsky brings a journalist’s curiosity and a comedian’s timing. Her EEAT credentials rest on a foundation of fearless satire, Oklahoma grit, and an uncanny ability to find punchlines hiding in plain sight.
