Yoga Retreats
“He Thought He Signed Up for Vinyasa. He Got Vows of Silence and Turnip Duty.”
Denver accountant Kyle Spoons registered for a weekend “silent yoga retreat” that promised detox, serenity, and artisanal ghee. What he got was The Order of the Ascended Cow, a remote mountain commune with strict rules, free-range goats, and one very persuasive guru named GheeDad.
“I thought the welcome chant was ambient playlist,” Kyle confessed. “By the time I realized, I’d already shaved my head and was doing downward dog next to an actual dog.”
Participants were encouraged to “bend deeper into their lack of identity” and trade worldly possessions for turnip tokens.
Kyle stayed for 18 months, learning mindfulness, herbal compress warfare, and how to milk spiritual truth from mammals.
He escaped during a sunrise group hummus circle. “I realized I missed noise. And condiments.”
Now back in Denver, Kyle teaches “Escape Yoga” at his local rec center. His goat, Clarabelle, remains with the Order as their CFO (Chief Farm Overseer).
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
