Over-the-Top Cosplay
“He Said It Was Just Foam. Then He Flew. And Then We Lost Wi-Fi.”
Jason “BlasterByte” Mendoza took cosplay to an uncharted level at MetroCon when he arrived in a fully functional Iron Man replica suit–complete with voice commands, retractable helmet, and what turned out to be an actual EMP pulse generator he assembled using parts from a retired microwave and misplaced ethics.
“He shouted ‘ENGAGE,’ and the convention center lost power. People cheered. Then panicked,” said witness and vendor Kiki Cosgrove, whose credit card swiper now only processes goat emojis.
The suit, constructed over 18 months and 42 energy drinks, also played motivational speeches from Robert Downey Jr. and launched tiny smoke bombs labeled “dramatic effect.”
One onlooker filed for shared custody of the suit, claiming “emotional paternity due to mutual geekhood.” Legal experts are baffled but intrigued.
Jason is banned from three states but has been offered a Netflix docuseries titled *Forged in Foam: One Man’s Rise, Circuit by Circuit.*
His suit now lives in a garage. The power grid has never been the same.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
