Bizarre Love Triangles
“They Said They Were Both Good with Cards. I Didn’t Know They Meant Romance.”
Sophie Lane thought she was just dating two emotionally available, mysterious men who each carried a deck of cards and smelled faintly of smoke and regret. She didn’t realize until their simultaneous “romantic reveals” that both were rival stage magicians–each accusing the other of seduction by sleight of hand.
“One vanished from brunch. The other appeared in my shower with a rose and a rabbit,” Sophie said. “At first I thought it was flattering. Then I found a dove in my purse.”
Things escalated quickly. Love letters appeared inside fortune cookies. Sophie’s cat disappeared for three days and returned in a top hat. Her roommate claims to have woken up handcuffed to a velvet curtain labeled “The Illusion of Fidelity.”
The final showdown occurred at a community theater when both magicians tried to pull Sophie from the same audience seat mid-performance. “They fought over me with fog machines,” Sophie said. “It was poetic. And flammable.”
Sophie has since sworn off magic but admits she sometimes misses the drama. “It was toxic, but romantic. Like dating a fireworks show run by narcissists.”
She now dates a mime. “At least when he disappears, it’s on purpose.”
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
