Allergic to Work

“The Note Said ‘No More Emails Ever.’ And They Approved It.”

After years of chronic tardiness, aggressive yawning, and visible allergic reactions to spreadsheets, Austin Delgado finally found a diagnosis that matched his lifestyle: “Acute Occupational Rejection Syndrome.” The condition, entirely self-declared, was accompanied by a doctor’s note written in green crayon on a napkin.

“It just said ‘Let him rest. -Dr. Vibes,'” said HR director Kelsey Grimes. “We thought it was a joke. But legally, it checked out.”

Austin cited symptoms like “document-induced nausea,” “PowerPoint vertigo,” and “Slack-triggered existential spirals.” His coworkers were initially skeptical–until he successfully passed out mid-spreadsheet and began muttering “burnout is a construct.”

His leave was approved under a vague clause titled “Spiritual Discomfort Exemption.” Austin now spends his days blogging about hammock therapy and tweeting about “workplace freedom reclamation.”

He’s started a support group called *Chronically Chill*, offering guided nap meditations and webinars on “Achieving Less.”

Experts warn that this could set a precedent for other conditions like “Deadline Aversion Disorder” and “Inbox Narcolepsy.”

When reached for comment, Austin said, “I would’ve emailed, but I broke out in inbox hives.”

Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
