Remote Control Fights
“It’s Never About the Remote. It’s About Unspoken Rage Between ‘Input 1’ and ‘Input 2.'”
According to licensed marriage counselor Dana Gross, remote control disputes are now the leading non-political cause of couple conflicts–surpassing thermostat wars, dishwasher loading strategy, and dramatic sighs during prestige dramas.
“One partner wants to watch true crime. The other wants silence and wine,” Gross said. “But the real issue? No one knows where the damn mute button is.”
One case involved a couple who hadn’t spoken in days because someone deleted *Great British Bake Off* to make room for UFC reruns and a documentary about competitive duck calling.
Another client described the remote as “a weapon disguised in plastic,” claiming his spouse clutches it during sleep like a “digital Excalibur.”
Smart TVs have made things worse. “Now they fight about apps, not just channels. And don’t even get me started on voice command betrayal,” Gross added.
She recommends couples institute “neutral watch zones,” and learn the ancient art of simultaneous scrolling while emotionally detaching.
Or better yet, buy two remotes. And one inflatable couch–just in case.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
