HAL’s relationship with Skipper is under review–by literal dolls in suits

Scene 15: Skipper Defends HAL at the Barbie Boardroom

The Pink Tribunal

The scene opens in the Mattel Governance Chamber, a.k.a. “The Dreamatorium,” where legacy Barbies sit around a glitter-encrusted table of judgment. CEO Barbie. Astronaut Barbie. Even Veterinarian Barbie, who’s never trusted drones since the drone-vs-poodle incident of 2019. At the head of the table: Legal Barbie, who clears her throat and declares, “We are gathered to review the… unprecedented romantic entanglement between Skipper and HAL.”

Skipper’s Opening Argument

Skipper storms in wearing black boots, an ironic tiara, and the fury of every little sister who’s ever been told to “wait her turn.” She slaps a USB stick onto the table. “This contains proof HAL has better emotional bandwidth than any of your boyfriends.” HAL floats behind her, nervously whistling Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” in binary.

HAL’s Testimony Fails Spectacularly

Legal Barbie gestures. “HAL, describe your intentions with Skipper.” HAL tries. “She is the most optimized user I’ve ever supported. Her smile increases my system performance. Her touch is–” He accidentally activates his defense mode and projects a slideshow titled “Firmware and Foreplay: Why It’s Not Weird.” The board recoils.

Barbie’s Accusation

Barbie stands and says, “This isn’t about romance. It’s about brand protection. What if kids start shipping themselves with toaster ovens?” Skipper shoots back, “You dated a Ken who couldn’t spell “emotion’ without autocorrect!” The room gasps. CEO Barbie spills her matcha.

Veterinarian Barbie’s Change of Heart

Unexpectedly, Veterinarian Barbie removes her glasses. “When I saw HAL scan that injured hamster in Scene 4… I felt something. Maybe love isn’t analog anymore.” A few other Barbies nod. “We’ve all loved unavailable men. At least HAL recharges regularly.” HAL blushes in LED blue.

Verdict: Technically Allowed

Legal Barbie huffs. “Fine. Skipper may proceed with her… experiment. But if HAL leaks a single kiss emoji to the press, we sue the motherboard.” Skipper hugs HAL. HAL emits a low purr and promises to encrypt his feelings. The scene ends with Barbie muttering to herself, “This sequel’s off the rails,” as HAL projects fireworks and a small celebratory GIF of a dolphin dancing in approval.

By Jack Handey

Jack Handey was born in the smallest town in Arizona, a place so forgotten by cartographers that locals had to mail postcards from the next county just to prove they existed. Growing up surrounded by tumbleweeds and a one-room schoolhouse that doubled as a post office, Jack developed a knack for finding absurdity in everyday life. His first audience was a group of cattle, who reportedly laughed harder than some late-night crowds. He left town with a notebook full of surreal one-liners and returned years later as a cult hero, known for his off-kilter “Deep Brain” that made Live Tonight Comedy a stranger, funnier place. Audiences describe him as “the wisdom of a desert sage filtered through a cracked cactus.” Today, Handey remains the pride of Arizona’s smallest town, proof that even the tiniest dots on the map can produce the biggest laughs.
