Zumba Cults

“I Thought It Was Just Cardio. Now I Speak in Rhythmic Chants and Fear Wednesdays.”

What began as a cheerful Tuesday Zumba class has escalated into a tribal loyalty movement centered around instructor “Jenergy”–a woman with boundless stamina, a personal fog machine, and the uncanny ability to make salsa steps feel like spiritual awakenings.

“She told us to feel the music. Next thing I knew, we were chanting under a disco ball and wearing matching tank tops that read ‘Cardio is my Doctrine,'” said former member Allison.

When a yoga class tried to reclaim the time slot, the Zumba group surrounded the studio with glow sticks and chanted “We don’t downward dog–we ascend!”

Jenergy denies cult allegations. “We’re just a high-vibe rhythm fellowship dedicated to explosive hip motion and hydration,” she said while applying glitter under her eyes.

Members are asked to tithe in coconut water and wear branded leg warmers. Newcomers must complete a “spiritual warm-up” that includes shouting affirmations while shimmying blindfolded.

One spin instructor defected and is now in Zumba Witness Protection, working quietly at a pilates studio under the name “Kevin.”

Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.

By Jack Handey

Jack Handey was born in the smallest town in Arizona, a place so forgotten by cartographers that locals had to mail postcards from the next county just to prove they existed. Growing up surrounded by tumbleweeds and a one-room schoolhouse that doubled as a post office, Jack developed a knack for finding absurdity in everyday life. His first audience was a group of cattle, who reportedly laughed harder than some late-night crowds. He left town with a notebook full of surreal one-liners and returned years later as a cult hero, known for his off-kilter “Deep Brain” that made Live Tonight Comedy a stranger, funnier place. Audiences describe him as “the wisdom of a desert sage filtered through a cracked cactus.” Today, Handey remains the pride of Arizona’s smallest town, proof that even the tiniest dots on the map can produce the biggest laughs.
