Over-Hashtaggers
“She Hashtagged #Hashtag. We Had No Choice.”
Social media micro-celebrity @GlowUpGemma, best known for her glitter-infused smoothie reels and slow-motion skincare slaps, is facing backlash after tagging a single Instagram post with 147 hashtags, including #SunsetMoodzzz, #InspoExplosion, and #WokeAndSoaked.
“I wanted to reach my audience,” Gemma said. “All 14 of my brand archetypes and my future self.”
The post, featuring a blurred photo of Gemma doing yoga on a neon paddleboard while feeding her dog papaya, immediately triggered Instagram’s algorithm to flag her as a potential bot overlord. Moments later, she was invited to a shadowy virtual tribunal known as The Elders of Insta.
“They appeared as silhouettes made of gradient filters and quoted Terms of Service clauses in Latin,” Gemma said. “They asked me to define the difference between #blissful and #blessed. I panicked.”
She was sentenced to 48 hours in “Caption Jail,” where she could only post photos of oatmeal with one emoji. Influencer sympathizers launched the hashtag #FreeGemma, which trended for 11 minutes before being overtaken by #AvocadoSpirituality.
Gemma now limits herself to 30 hashtags and hosts weekly webinars titled *#HashtagHumbled.*
Her new minimalist post format? “?.”
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
