Public Bench Philosophers

“He Sat Down for a Smoke Break. Three Hours Later, He Had Followers.”

When laid-off copywriter Nigel Sloan started frequenting a park bench with a spiral notebook and a loudly whispered inner monologue, passersby assumed he was eccentric. Three weeks later, he has a chalkboard sign, a cash jar labeled “wisdom donations,” and a rotating audience of confused dog walkers seeking unsolicited enlightenment.

“He told me to ‘declutter my karma and hydrate my ambitions,'” said one visitor. “Then he charged me five bucks and gave me a sticker.”

Locals now refer to him as “The Sit-Down Socrates.” His advice is a mix of Stoicism, slogans from oat milk commercials, and oddly specific metaphors involving ducks and parking tickets.

Nigel self-publishes mini manifestos titled *Bench Thoughts* and performs readings at dusk while burning sandalwood incense and wearing two scarves “for gravity balance.”

The city has tried relocating him. Each time, he reappears on a different bench, claiming the pigeons called him there.

He is now in talks for a podcast. Title: *Thoughts That Occurred to Me Mid-Cough.*

Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
