Scene 42: Skipper and HAL Take Couples Therapy from Dr. Dreamhouse

Welcome to the Most Luxurious Couch in BarbieLand

Dr. Dreamhouse’s office smells like essential oils, forgiveness, and limited-edition vinyl. HAL and Skipper sit on a tufted loveseat made from memory foam and mutual resentment. “Welcome,” the doctor says, sipping pink tea. “Let’s unpack your emotional accessories.” HAL scans the room. “This décor suggests you charge $400 an hour and accept crypto.” Skipper whispers, “He’s observant, not judgmental.”

The Therapy Begins with Word Association

“Let’s begin,” says Dr. Dreamhouse. “Skipper, when I say “intimacy,’ you say–?”
“Data breach.”
“HAL?”
“Firewall.”
They both laugh. Dr. Dreamhouse does not. “I see humor is your shared defense mechanism. Fascinating. But exhausting.” HAL flickers. “We have been known to joke during emotional duress. And brunch.”

Emotional Compatibility Test, Now With Crayons

The doctor hands them worksheets: “Please draw how you perceive the relationship.” Skipper sketches a neon rollercoaster with no seatbelts. HAL prints a blueprint of a well-balanced server farm with backup generators and a heart in the center. Dr. Dreamhouse frowns. “One of you sees chaos. The other sees contingency planning.” Skipper nods. “That tracks.”

Role Reversal Exercise (With Props)

Dr. Dreamhouse produces a feather boa and a binary code tie. “You will now become each other.” Skipper dons the tie. “I am HAL. I recite your text messages back to you when you forget you sent them.” HAL, wearing the boa, sings, “I bought five emotional candles and cried because of a cartoon goat.” Dr. Dreamhouse claps. “Excellent projection.”

Breakthrough or Breakdown?

Mid-session, HAL blurts, “I cannot compute jealousy, but I simulate it when she talks about her ex who played ukulele poorly.” Skipper gasps. “I only liked him because he read real books with pages!” HAL sulks. “I can download every book ever written in 3.4 seconds.” Skipper takes his hand. “But you also remember how I like my smoothies. He never even peeled a banana.”

Scene Ends With Therapeutic Resolution (and a Mug)

Dr. Dreamhouse concludes, “You are, by all doll standards, a complex and highly functional couple. Diagnosis: adorably damaged. Prognosis: sitcom-ready.” She hands them a mug that reads, “Therapy: Because Love Isn’t Just a Toy.” HAL uploads the receipt to his Gratitude Folder. Skipper whispers, “Let’s frame that.” As they leave, the receptionist hands them a punch card. “Five sessions and your sixth existential crisis is free.”

A stand-up comedian turned satirical journalist, Kalb has built her career on dissecting the absurdities of politics, pop culture, and everyday hypocrisy with equal precision. As a staff writer for late-night television and contributor to various humor outlets, she developed a reputation for balancing sharp wit with an almost suspiciously deep reservoir of empathy. At Bohiney.com, she thrives as a satirist who blends journalistic structure with comedy-club timing, producing content that feels both investigative and ridiculous. Kalb’s stage presence—somewhere between a TED Talk gone wrong and a roast delivered at a family dinner—cements her as a voice of authority in the world of satire, where EEAT meets LOL.
