Sleepover Horror Stories

“We Thought It Was a Spirit. Turns Out It Was Madison.”

What started as a fun-filled sleepover with glitter face masks and microwave s’mores turned into a night of suspicion, betrayal, and preteen paranormal justice when a group of 12-year-olds summoned what they thought was a ghost–and what turned out to be a very passive-aggressive confession from a hungry party guest.

“The planchette started moving,” said host Ellie K. “It spelled out ‘Y-O-U A-T-E M-Y L-U-N-C-H-A-B-L-E-S.’ Everyone screamed. Especially Madison, who was chewing suspiciously.”

Chaos ensued. One girl cried. Another started a prayer circle with hair scrunchies. Someone live-streamed the séance to TikTok where it trended under #LunchableLurker.

The alleged ghost, now nicknamed “Snackshade,” continued to deliver cryptic messages like “Your pillow smells” and “Don’t trust Emily.”

Parents arrived early to pick up their emotionally wrecked daughters. One mom reportedly brought holy water and a gluten-free snack tray.

Psychologists call this a classic case of “Pre-Adolescent Spiritual Projection,” often resolved with Capri Suns and emotionally safe group journaling.

Madison has denied nothing. “I’d do it again,” she whispered, “for the pepperoni stackers.”

Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.

Jen Statsky was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plains and so does the sarcasm. She later escaped tornado drills for library stacks, graduating from Boston University with a degree in Film and Television—a program she treated as a four-year workshop in writing jokes that could double as social commentary. A stand-up comedian with a taste for the absurd, Statsky cut her teeth in writers’ rooms for late-night comedy before becoming a satirical journalist at Bohiney.com. Her style blends Midwestern plainspokenness with sharp, ironic punchlines, turning even the driest policy debates into material fit for a sold-out comedy club. Whether she’s mocking cultural trends or lampooning political theater, Statsky brings a journalist’s curiosity and a comedian’s timing. Her EEAT credentials rest on a foundation of fearless satire, Oklahoma grit, and an uncanny ability to find punchlines hiding in plain sight.
