Spiritual Leader Reportedly Overwhelmed by Free Samples and Bulk Rice
FRESNO, CA — Chaos briefly erupted at a local Costco after Mahatma Gandhi was spotted in Aisle 7, standing motionless between a pallet of organic lentils and a 30-pound bucket of nacho cheese. Eyewitnesses say he appeared “deeply conflicted” and “possibly meditating on the ethics of bulk consumption.”
“He stared at a crate of quinoa for 27 minutes,” said assistant manager Rick Fandel. “Then he whispered something about “resistance through portion control’ and floated toward the refrigerated hummus.”
Costco employees quickly swarmed the area, unsure whether to offer him a membership, a refund, or a hug. One staffer attempted to hand him a paper cup of mango smoothie. Gandhi reportedly accepted it, sipped once, then left it on the handle of a shopping cart and nodded solemnly.
“It was like watching a monk do ayahuasca in a warehouse,” said shopper Belinda Cruz. “He made me question my 48-pack of taquitos.”
Security footage later showed Gandhi at the checkout line placing a single bar of soap and a Himalayan salt lamp on the conveyor belt before calmly walking away without paying. The items were left glowing faintly, possibly sanctified.
Costco has not filed charges but has added a new section to its employee handbook titled “Dealing with Unexpected Enlightenment.” A company spokesperson confirmed that while Gandhi did not scan a membership card, “his aura seemed to waive all corporate requirements.”
Reached for comment outside in the parking lot, Gandhi reportedly told a child, “Freedom is not a sample tray,” and then vanished into a Prius that did not belong to him.
