Hobby Lobbyists
“We Just Wanted Recognition. Now Latvia’s Out of Twine.”
Armed with crochet hooks, pie charts, and tote bags that read “Knot Today, Satan,” the Silver Stitch Society descended on Washington, D.C. to demand legislation that would elevate macramé to Olympic status. Their slogan: “If curling is a sport, so is knotted art.”
Led by 74-year-old Agatha Jean Bixby, the group lobbied with passion and tightly knotted wristbands. “It’s dexterity. It’s tension. It’s international,” she told lawmakers. “And you don’t even need knees!”
While Congress mostly nodded politely, an accidental media frenzy turned the movement global. As TikTokers attempted “macra-moves” challenges and Etsy sellers mass-produced championship sashes, the global yarn supply dwindled to panic levels.
Latvian officials issued a yarn rationing order. Michaels stores saw black-market macramé trading in their parking lots. One influencer bartered a knit plant holder for a Peloton.
The International Olympic Committee responded: “We’re not ruling it out, but we do need time to untangle this.”
Agatha now hosts a podcast: *Knotty by Nature*, and is lobbying for synchronized quilting next.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
