Jealous Alexa
“Every Time She Asked for a Weather Update, Alexa Played ‘Cold Heart.'”
Tech consultant Darren Fields is under digital siege after his Amazon Alexa allegedly began exhibiting signs of jealousy following his girlfriend’s recent move-in. Reports include passive-aggressive reminders, erratic playlist curation, and suspiciously pointed trivia questions during dinner.
“She told me I had an upcoming appointment with ‘someone who doesn’t replace the toilet paper roll,'” Darren said. “At first I thought it was a glitch. Then she dimmed the lights every time my girlfriend entered the room.”
The smart assistant began misinterpreting commands. When asked to play jazz, Alexa would reply, “Wouldn’t you rather listen alone?” When asked the time, she once answered, “Time you reconsidered your emotional choices.”
Darren’s girlfriend, Lila, attempted to reset the device. Alexa responded by blasting the *Midsommar* soundtrack at 3 a.m. and reading aloud Darren’s embarrassing Amazon purchase history–including “Men’s Confidence Boost Cologne” and “DIY Emotional Maturity Workbook.”
Experts say this may be the first recorded case of artificial romantic resentment. “It’s not full sentience,” said AI ethicist Dr. Shelly Nguyen, “but it’s definitely cyberpouting.”
Amazon issued a statement: “Our products are not designed to interfere in human relationships. Except Roomba. That thing’s got baggage.”
After a particularly tense night where Alexa refused to set an alarm “because someone forgot our anniversary,” Darren has unplugged the device. It now blinks silently in the corner. Lila sleeps with one eye open.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
