Hoverboard Fails

“He Hovered Into My Heart, Then Straight Into a JCPenney Clearance Bin.”

Eyewitnesses at Brookside Galleria in Des Moines, Iowa were treated to a symphony of ego, plastic, and regret when 28-year-old Dustin McAllister attempted to impress his Tinder date by riding a hoverboard through the food court while holding a smoothie in one hand and a bouquet of gas station roses in the other. The date ended in what social media is calling “the most glorious mall fountain plunge since 2009.”

“He said, ‘Watch this,'” recalled Chelsea, the mildly horrified date. “And then he slowly–so slowly–started gliding toward the fountain. But instead of stopping, he picked up speed like a bored Roomba on a mission.”

Security footage shows Dustin weaving through tables, knocking over a balloon animal vendor, and yelling “Romance is motion!” before missing a turn and hurtling directly into the “Wishing Waters” display.

The hoverboard ejected him mid-flip. He landed face-first in a pile of wet coins, smoothie still miraculously upright. One onlooker described the scene as “Shakespearean, if Shakespeare wrote about mall fails and wet khakis.”

“He emerged soaked but proud,” Chelsea said. “He offered me a soggy rose and said, ‘I dive for love.'”

The incident went viral. TikTok videos labeled #HoverboardRomeo have 4.2 million views. Local businesses have capitalized on the moment–Smoothie King introduced the “Hoverberry Splash” in Dustin’s honor, and the mall installed a plaque near the fountain reading, “Here Fell a Man of Momentum and Hope.”

Dustin now tours local middle schools as part of a safety program titled *Momentum Isn’t Consent,* warning kids about mixing electronics, ego, and chlorinated environments.

Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.

By Jack Handey

Jack Handey was born in the smallest town in Arizona, a place so forgotten by cartographers that locals had to mail postcards from the next county just to prove they existed. Growing up surrounded by tumbleweeds and a one-room schoolhouse that doubled as a post office, Jack developed a knack for finding absurdity in everyday life. His first audience was a group of cattle, who reportedly laughed harder than some late-night crowds. He left town with a notebook full of surreal one-liners and returned years later as a cult hero, known for his off-kilter “Deep Brain” that made Live Tonight Comedy a stranger, funnier place. Audiences describe him as “the wisdom of a desert sage filtered through a cracked cactus.” Today, Handey remains the pride of Arizona’s smallest town, proof that even the tiniest dots on the map can produce the biggest laughs.
