Peloton Raises Fees — Fitness Now Costs More Than Therapy
By Tinsel Vandergraph | Bohiney Magazine
New York — Peloton announced a price hike today that will make its workout subscription cost more than a year of affordable therapy — though, to be fair, both involve crying on the floor.
Peloton’s New Premium Stress Pricing Model
The new $59-per-month plan includes “enhanced motivation,” which the company defines as “a prerecorded instructor yelling, ‘You can afford this!’ every 30 seconds.”
CEO Dara Treseder explained: “We’re not just raising prices. We’re raising heart rates and cortisol levels — premium stress for premium customers.”
What the Funny People Are Saying
“I bought a Peloton to feel better about myself. Now I’m broke and tired — basically a triathlete,” Amy Schumer said.
“Peloton is the only gym where you can go nowhere fast and still get charged for the ride,” Jerry Seinfeld said.
Behavioral Economics of Fitness Illusion
Behavioral economist Dr. Leo Firth told Bohiney: “Peloton users aren’t paying for fitness. They’re paying for the illusion of progress — it’s like therapy, except your therapist is a glowing Australian who calls you ‘champ.'”
Leaked internal documents show Peloton’s new model also offers “existential incline mode,” simulating the uphill battle of affording groceries.
Users Justify Expense Despite Financial Strain
A recent poll by MarketWatch found that 48% of users justify the expense because “at least the bike doesn’t judge my life choices — just my cadence.”
An anonymous engineer admitted, “The bikes technically don’t go anywhere, but they do collect enough personal data to tell you you’re unhappy in your marriage.”
Peloton Defends Fee Increase for Wellness Initiatives
Peloton defended the move, claiming the higher fee funds “cutting-edge wellness initiatives,” like a feature that automatically emails your boss when you skip leg day.
Competitor NordicTrack responded by launching its own therapy plan called “CryCycle,” featuring instructors trained in both spin class and grief counseling.
At press time, Peloton stock had risen 4%, mostly from guilt-induced purchases.
