GoFundMe Scams
“She Said It Was a Spiritual Journey. She Meant to the Jacuzzi Store.”
Influencer-in-progress Madison Leigh launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund her “soul searching sabbatical,” promising to journal daily, meditate deeply, and find purpose in silence. Donors were promised inspirational content and “weekly tearful insights.”
Instead, she posted a TikTok tour of her new 8-person hot tub, champagne subscription, and Carl–the inflatable swan she now calls her “spiritual flotation advisor.”
“Healing looks different for everyone,” she explained while sipping from a crystal-studded tumbler labeled “Namaste, B*tch.”
Backers are outraged. One donor said, “I didn’t pay $50 to sponsor a girlboss bubble soak.” Another received a postcard that simply read: “I’m thriving. You should too.”
GoFundMe has launched an investigation. Madison has launched a sequel campaign for “Swans of Expansion: Carl Needs a Wife.”
Meanwhile, Carl has his own Instagram and brand deal with a bath bomb startup.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
