New policy announced to respect astral identity of nonbinary objects
NASA Redefines Rock as “Celestial Being of Unspecified Sentience”
In an effort to modernize its taxonomy, NASA has reclassified all meteorites and space debris using gender-neutral terminology. The announcement refers to Meteor-X as a “Celestial Being of Unspecified Sentience,” or CBUS. “We don’t assume life or language, but we do assume respect,” said spokesperson Dr. Emily Typhoon. NASA is also updating all spacecraft software to use “they/them’ pronouns by default. The initiative sparked backlash from conservative meteoriticists who claim “it’s just a damn rock.” Meanwhile, Twitter embraced the change with memes and declarations of solidarity. One read: “You misgender a meteorite once, and next thing you know, Pluto unfriends you.”
