Interstellar Object

Alien Object Sparks Political Panic: Democrats Prepare for Salvation, Republicans Ready for Annihilation, and Harvard Wants a Book Deal

“We are not alone. But we still plan to act like it’s all about us.” —NASA spokesperson, holding a latte and a missile schematic.

An Interstellar Object Arrives: Earth Responds Like a Middle School Drama Club

According to a Harvard scientist, a Manhattan-sized interstellar object—possibly artificial—has entered our solar system and is heading toward Earth. It’s not a comet, it’s not an asteroid, and it definitely isn’t your ex’s emotional baggage (though the speed and unpredictability are eerily similar).

Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb, who apparently moonlights as a cosmic hype man, warns this object could be an alien spacecraft—or, more ominously, an alien weapon. His exact quote: “We’ve never seen anything like this before.” His follow-up quote at the press conference: “And I just finished binge-watching The X-Files, so I’m emotionally prepared.”

The Pentagon issued a vague statement of concern. NASA tweeted “👀,” followed by 12 redacted images, and then went back to calculating the budget for a Mars rover shaped like a waffle iron.

Meanwhile, Earth’s political factions responded in… entirely predictable ways.

Democrats: “Maybe They’ll Save Us From Ourselves”

Leading Democrats have turned to the stars with an optimism usually reserved for campaign promises about affordable housing.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued a statement:

“If they are here to deliver universal healthcare, fix the climate, and teach us sustainable lunar farming—then we welcome them. Please take us.”

President Biden, after being briefed on the alien object, reportedly squinted into the sky, waved, and said, “Is that Corn Pop’s ship?” Kamala Harris nodded solemnly and told reporters, “We believe in dialogue. And we hope the aliens do too. Unless they’re libertarians. Then we might need sanctions.”

The DNC began work on a new donor campaign:
“Join the Resistance. Now Intergalactic.”
Donors giving over $1,000 receive a tote bag made of recycled alien raygun shrapnel (or, more accurately, leftover foil from Marianne Williamson’s 2020 campaign materials).

Republicans: “It’s Coming for Our Gas Stoves”

The GOP, meanwhile, suspects this could be The Big One.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a “No-Fly Zone” for extraterrestrials over the Sunshine State and passed a bill banning alien literature in public schools “until we can translate it and ensure it doesn’t contain woke ideologies.”

At a rally in Texas, Sen. Ted Cruz warned:

“First they take your guns. Then they take your Bud Light. Now they’re taking your planet. Stay strapped.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted:

“It’s obviously a trans-dimensional Deep State distraction from Hunter Biden’s laptop. WAKE UP SHEEPLE.”

The GOP’s plan includes launching an armed space militia called “Patriots in Orbit,” composed of unvaccinated Navy SEALs and at least one raccoon trained to detect liberal energy.

Marxists: “Finally, the Revolution Has Space Legs”

Over on the far-left, Marxist forums exploded with hope and delusion.

A collective known as “Cosmic Dialectics” issued this statement from a co-op bookstore in Berkeley:

“Comrades, we welcome the anti-capitalist visitors. Their interstellar dialectic will liberate us from iPhones, rent, and influencer culture. Let the classless federation of planets begin!”

They also filed a Change.org petition demanding the aliens be granted asylum, reparations, and a guaranteed minimum income of 3,000 galactic credits.

Some socialists were disappointed the object didn’t immediately vaporize Jeff Bezos.

One activist cried tears of joy when she learned the object wasn’t privately owned. “It’s public transportation,” she whispered. “For the stars.”

The Military-Industrial Complex: “Our Body Is Ready”

Lockheed Martin’s stock jumped 22% the moment the news broke.

The Military-Industrial Complex released a joint statement titled:
“INCOMING: Hope You Like Lasers.”

Raytheon already has prototypes of the Planetary Defense Dome, a $3.2 trillion program designed to shoot at vague silhouettes in space. Boeing plans to retrofit Air Force One into Space Force One, complete with a tanning bed and karaoke lounge.

A leaked Pentagon document reveals a “Phase 3” plan in which the U.S. fakes an alien threat to justify colonizing the moon. Again.

A military analyst named “Colonel X” appeared on Fox News wearing sunglasses and a hoodie.

“We always knew it’d come to this. Aliens hate freedom. Our job is to make sure they learn the hard way what happens when you mess with Texas and thermonuclear warheads.”

Science: “We Just Wanted to Study Rocks”

Harvard’s Avi Loeb continues his media tour, sounding like Carl Sagan with a marketing degree.

He insists:

“This object’s velocity and shape defy natural explanation. It’s cigar-shaped, metallic, and traveling faster than Marjorie Taylor Greene’s conspiracy theories.”

Critics accuse Loeb of alien sensationalism, but he insists it’s science. “If it isn’t aliens, it’s still the weirdest thing since Pluto was demoted and then rebranded by Disney.”

NASA researchers reportedly renamed the object “Oumuwa-geddon”, which is Hawaiian for “Buy more funding.”

MIT scientists are trying to shoot radio messages at the object, including Mozart, Einstein quotes, and TikTok dances. The goal is to communicate non-aggressively. Or just confuse them enough to leave.

Religious Reactions: Everyone’s Freaking Out Differently

Evangelicals:

Franklin Graham declared this object to be a sign of the Second Coming, Third Recession, and Fourth Bowl of Wrath—all rolled into one. Mega-churches are selling “Alien-Proof Holy Water” at $99.99 per bottle. Shipping not included.

Catholics:

The Vatican has begun preparing an interstellar exorcism, just in case the object is possessed by the ghost of Galileo. Pope Leo XIV (not officially canonized, but spiritually trending) said in a TikTok homily:

“Even the Nephilim had GPS. Let us not fear what we do not yet understand—unless it’s AI.”

Scientologists:

Have filed trademark paperwork to copyright the object. Tom Cruise plans to ride it in his next film.

Wall Street Bets: “We’re YOLO-ing Into Alien Futures”

Reddit traders are already betting on a new cryptocurrency called “UFO Coin”, which will be “backed by cosmic vibes and Elon’s tears.”

Gamestop stock inexplicably doubled. Again.

Media: Blame and Monetize

CNN:

Breaking news graphic reads:
“Alien Probe Enters Solar System—Was Trump to Blame?”

MSNBC:

Has already assembled a “Diversity & Inclusion on Spaceships” panel featuring Joy Reid, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and a hologram of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Fox News:

Tucker’s replacement, Chad Laserface, asks:

“What if they come here demanding pronouns?”

NPR:

Hosted a 7-hour ambient podcast where a harpist debates the ethics of intergalactic immigration policy.

What the Aliens Are (Probably) Thinking

Leaked intercepted transmission from the object, translated by Reddit user @Starboi69:

“EARTH’S SIGNALS: LARGE QUANTITY OF DATA. PREDOMINANTLY CATS AND YELLING.
HUMAN CIVILIZATION = 74% SARCASM, 16% ADVERTISEMENTS, 10% FART NOISES.
CONCLUSION: INTELLIGENT LIFE UNCLEAR. WILL CIRCLE BACK.”

Another signal simply read:
“Too many Kardashians. Retreating.”

In Case of Contact: Earth’s Diplomatic Plan

A newly assembled global task force has decided Earth’s first message to the alien object will be:

“Hello. We are humans. We are a mostly peaceful, semi-irrational species. Please ignore Twitter. Can we interest you in a climate summit or a McRib?”

The team’s backup plan is to send Morgan Freeman to narrate Earth’s apology.

Public Opinion Poll (Totally Real & 100% Scientific)

Conducted by Red Wedge Public Opinion Group:

“What do you hope the alien object does?”

Conclusion: We Are the Joke the Universe Tells Itself

In summary, the arrival of a mysterious interstellar object has brought humanity together—in confusion, paranoia, opportunism, and spiritual sales events. It may be the most unifying force since Y2K… or New Coke.

If it’s here to save us, let’s not blow it. If it’s here to destroy us, at least let’s livestream it. And if it’s here just to pass by and judge us silently from space… well, who could blame it?

15 Observations on the Interstellar Object

Harvard scientists believe it might be an alien probe. Republicans believe it’s a Chinese balloon with better PR. Democrats believe it’s here to endorse climate change legislation.

The object is traveling at ungodly speeds… which means it’s already been offered a deal to co-host The View.

Marxists hope it’s here to dismantle capitalism. Unfortunately, the alien ship was last seen hovering near a Tesla dealership.

NASA issued a calm public statement, while the Pentagon ordered 400 more Tomahawk missiles—just in case diplomacy fails with the hyper-intelligent gas cloud.

AOC tweeted, “If they come in peace, they better be union.” Elon Musk replied, “Let’s breed with them.”

The object is shaped like a metallic pancake, which makes it the only thing the Midwest trusts right now.

Tucker Carlson blames the object on “woke astrophysics.” Rachel Maddow blames it on Trump’s Space Force deregulation.

It passed by Earth once before in 2017 but didn’t stop. Likely saw Twitter and noped out.

Some theorize the object contains the original Twitter code of conduct, jettisoned into space after Elon took over.

The military called it “non-threatening.” That’s what they said about TikTok until it made teenagers eat Tide Pods.

Religious leaders are praying it’s not the return of Sodom and Gomorrah in spaceship form. Meanwhile, Scientologists are outside waiting with pamphlets.

A survey found 62% of Americans are more afraid of this space object than they are of rising rent. The object now polls higher than Joe Biden.

Libertarians have vowed to shoot it down if it violates intergalactic property rights.

Ron DeSantis wants to ban it from Florida unless it registers as an American citizen.

Republicans think it’s here to destroy us. Democrats think it’s here to save us. The aliens probably just want tacos and to use our Wi-Fi.

By Signe Wilkinson

Signe Wilkinson was born in Durant, Oklahoma, a place where sharp humor often bubbled up between church socials and town hall meetings. After studying fine arts and political science at the University of Oklahoma, she fused those disciplines into a career that made her one of America’s most distinctive satirical voices. Now based in Washington, D.C., Wilkinson is celebrated for her incisive editorial cartoons and essays that expose the hypocrisies of politics and culture with both wit and clarity. Her work has been archived in major journalism institutions, cited in university courses on satire as democratic critique, and featured on panels examining freedom of expression. Known for pairing biting humor with compassion, she transforms local observation into national commentary. From Durant to D.C., Wilkinson shows that satire is democracy’s sketchbook and scalpel.
