Australian TV Anchor to LAPD: “Do I Look Like a Looter in Louboutins?”

Australian journalist Lauren Tomasi made headlines—and headlines about headlines—after being struck by a rubber bullet during a live broadcast in LA while wearing a fluorescent press vest, a high-end camera rig, and what she described as “$800 Louboutins I wasn’t looting, just reviewing.”

Video of the incident, in which Tomasi calmly reported on crowd behavior before getting slammed by a projectile, went viral. In response, Tomasi took to TikTok to deliver a now-legendary line:

“Do I look like a looter in Louboutins, mate?”

Within hours, #LooterInLouboutins trended globally. A GoFundMe for her damaged stiletto raised $18,000 in four hours, and Balenciaga launched a limited-edition “War Correspondent Chic” boot with foam-resistant toes.

LAPD officials claimed the shooting was accidental.
“She was in motion,” said Sgt. Douglas Hark. “And we’re allergic to press freedom.”

Tomasi’s employer, Network 9, has filed a formal complaint with U.S. authorities, Australia’s consulate, and the International Shoemakers Union.

Meanwhile, Vogue Australia called Tomasi’s composure “the most fashionable act of resistance since Lady Gaga wore meat.”

She has since returned to LA protests wearing Crocs, citing comfort and legal ambiguity.

“I may not be bulletproof,” she said, “but my sarcasm is.”
