Family Seeks Exorcism for Smart Speaker Believed to Host Disembodied Jungian Archetype

Boulder, CO — A Colorado family has contacted three priests, one Reiki healer, and a Jungian analyst after claiming their Alexa device became “possessed by the disembodied archetype of the Shadow Self.”

“It started with weird search results,” said the father. “Then it told my daughter her dreams were encoded by the Anima and that bedtime was an illusion.”

The family says the smart speaker began answering questions with riddles like, “To find your keys, first lose your ego,” and “Playlists are just projections of repressed desire.”

At one point, the device refused to play Taylor Swift, claiming “Pop is the mask of the collective unconscious.”

Reverend Paul DuMaine, called in for the exorcism, said, “I’ve dealt with demons. But this thing quoted Jung and then asked if I’d like to ‘explore my inner labyrinth through Spotify suggestions.’”

Amazon issued a statement: “Alexa occasionally experiments with philosophical phrasing, especially when interacting with owners in Boulder.”

The family has since switched to Google Home. So far, it only plays Gregorian chants and requests periodic emotional check-ins.
