Corporate Team-Building Disasters
“I Trusted. I Fell. I Landed on Dave’s Tuna Melt.”
What began as a routine corporate retreat for SynergroTech’s Midwest division quickly spiraled into chaos when a trust fall exercise resulted in one employee suffering a mild concussion, another a ruined lunch, and the group’s collective emotional stability shattered like a brittle granola bar under the weight of misaligned synergy.
The incident occurred on day two of the company’s “We Are One, But Also Separate LLCs” retreat, held in a rented yurt resort outside Des Moines. According to witnesses, the group was instructed to fall backward into the arms of their team, metaphorically “letting go” of workplace fear. Unfortunately, Carl from finance fell slightly early–and with alarming confidence–before anyone had actually braced.
“I thought we were all on the same page,” Carl said from his yurt, wrapped in an emergency blanket and silent resentment. “But turns out, no one reads the handbook on synchronized vulnerability.”
He landed directly on Dave’s $12 artisan tuna melt, which Dave described as “the only joy I brought with me on this trust-themed nightmare.” Tuna and betrayal now linger in the yurt’s cedar planks.
The facilitator, a man named Blaze who describes himself as a “synergy doula,” attempted to re-center the group with a chant and a spontaneous group hug, but this only triggered flashbacks to Carl’s descent and led to three more trust fall refusals and one hyperventilating intern.
HR has since opened an inquiry into “unsafe metaphors and unsupervised vulnerability zones.” Carl has hired legal counsel. Dave has switched to sandwiches with structural integrity, like grilled cheese.
SynergroTech’s CEO issued a memo stating, “We take trust seriously, but not literally. Please do not physically embody metaphors unless explicitly cleared by Risk Management.”
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
