Garage Sale Negotiations
“It Was the Principle. And Also the Smell of Desperation and Cinnamon.”
Suburban mom and amateur haggler Cynthia Polanski made headlines in the local Facebook group “Buy/Sell/Trauma” after negotiating down a 50-cent ceramic candle holder to 35 cents–after a 17-minute standoff with an octogenarian named Doris.
“I came for deals,” said Cynthia, adjusting her fanny pack. “I left with emotional wounds and something shaped like a duck.”
Witnesses say the argument included five rounds of “What if I buy two?” and Doris’ stern reminder that “This isn’t Target, honey–it’s war.”
The candle holder now sits on Cynthia’s mantle as both victory trophy and silent reminder of her own moral gray zone.
Doris has since raised prices by 200% and renamed her driveway “The Negotiation Pit.”
The two are now rumored to be co-authoring a book: *Fifty Cents of Shade: Retail Showdowns in a Folding Chair Economy.*
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
