Hobby Lobbyists
“He Said It’s Not a Hobby. It’s a Lifestyle With Legislative Urgency.”
Retired postal worker and model rail enthusiast Gary Knudsen traveled to Washington, D.C. with 43 signatures, a briefcase of train whistles, and a mission: to elevate miniature trains to federally protected sport status.
“They have curling in the Olympics,” Gary said. “We have smoke machines, coal realism, and emotional tunnels.”
He cornered lawmakers in elevators, handing out HO-scale figurines with attached QR codes linking to his petition: *The Rail Isn’t Small, Your Imagination Is.*
Congressional staffers remain baffled. One senator reportedly agreed to “look into it” after receiving a tiny handmade depot labeled “Your Office, But With Trains.”
Gary is now lobbying for tax breaks on model grass and running an online forum called *TrainBrain24*, where he hosts emotional whistle meditations.
A bill has not yet passed. But his caboose-shaped camper is parked proudly on Capitol Hill.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
