Bizarre Band Names
“They Said It Was a Joke. Now They’re Touring Scandinavia.”
Originally named as a dare at a house party in Des Moines, the indie band *Moist Grandfather* went from ironic SoundCloud obscurity to viral fame after a Spotify algorithm mistook their track *Spooning in Traffic* for a Billie Eilish B-side. Streams skyrocketed. Confusion followed. Devotion exploded.
“We were gonna change the name to ‘Velvet Tuesday,'” said lead singer Kip. “But then people started getting tattoos. Moist ones.”
Their aesthetic–a mix of underwater synth, accordion screams, and kazoo-backed spoken word–has been described as “deeply unsettling, yet oddly comforting. Like therapy in a haunted bathhouse.”
Band members now embrace the name fully. Their merchandise includes terrycloth robes, scented beard oils, and “Moist AF” fanny packs.
“We get fan mail addressed to Grandpa Moist,” said drummer CJ. “And we read it. Out loud. In unison.”
Their next album, *Wrinkled and Reverbed*, drops next week–on cassette only.
Industry execs have begged them to change the name. They replied by mailing a single sock soaked in eucalyptus oil labeled “no.”
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
