Terrible Karaoke Duets
“When You Butcher ‘Shallow’ Loud Enough, Borders Notice.”
What started as a fun Friday night at a Buffalo karaoke bar ended in heartbreak, viral infamy, and minor geopolitical tension when engaged couple Lindsay Kramer and Brent Doyle attempted a karaoke duet of “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper so catastrophically off-key that Canada issued a noise advisory across the border.
“It was less of a duet and more of a musical hostage situation,” said bartender Tanya Lee. “I’ve heard raccoons scream in trash fires with more harmony.”
Witnesses say the performance began awkwardly and quickly spiraled into chaos. Brent insisted on using a falsetto he described as “raw and earthy” but was likened by patrons to “a goose with commitment issues.” Lindsay, meanwhile, entered each verse like a tone-deaf freight train of emotion and resentment.
Halfway through, Lindsay shouted, “You always ruin the bridge!” and threw the mic stand. Brent countered by air-humping toward the DJ booth while sobbing, “I gave you my vibrato!” At that moment, their engagement ring flew off and landed in a pitcher of Bud Light Lime, where it remains preserved in lime-scented lore.
The bar erupted in confused applause and horror. Three patrons left with bleeding eardrums. A tourist from Saskatchewan called his embassy. Within hours, the video–titled *Shallow? More Like Deep Regret*–amassed 18 million views on YouTube and was reviewed by Pitchfork as “an audio war crime, but conceptually bold.”
After the incident, Lindsay updated her relationship status to “single and staying in her vocal lane,” while Brent released a SoundCloud diss track called “Mic Checkmate.” The couple’s wedding website now redirects to a discount earplug retailer.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
