Festival Fashion Fails

“It Was a Statement Piece–Unfortunately, the Statement Was ‘Help Me.'”

Coachella attendee and self-proclaimed “desert visionary” Tanner Bloom made headlines this weekend after his experimental biodegradable outfit began to dissolve under the scorching California sun, exposing not only his bare chest but also a large tattoo reading “Crypto Is Forever” in Comic Sans.

Tanner, 26, had spent weeks crafting what he called a “climate-forward couture moment” using hemp fibers, vegan glue, and edible glitter he claimed was “blessed by a fashion shaman.” The outfit, a cross between a gladiator harness and a quinoa sack, was designed to decompose naturally–just not during his setlist.

“I wanted to make a statement about fashion waste,” Tanner told reporters while standing behind a cactus in borrowed board shorts. “Unfortunately, the outfit made a faster exit than my ex after I explained NFTs.”

Festivalgoers watched in stunned silence as his ensemble slowly gave up, first unraveling at the seams, then cascading like sad lettuce at a barbecue. “At first we thought it was part of the performance,” said one witness. “But then he started yelling ‘This is not conceptual!’ and trying to hold it together with an organic corn chip.”

The true tragedy, however, wasn’t the sudden exposure or the blinding reflection off his unmoisturized chest–it was the tattoo. Spanning his ribcage in poorly aligned letters was the phrase “Crypto Is Forever,” flanked by two pixelated laser-eyed dogs holding Dogecoin medallions. Below it, the year “2021” was etched like a permanent timestamp of cultural embarrassment.

“It was supposed to be ironic,” Tanner insisted. “Like, obviously nothing is forever, especially crypto. But also I totally believed in it when I got it. Like, deeply. Emotionally.”

Social media was swift and brutal. One tweet, featuring a close-up of the tattoo and the caption “This didn’t age well,” has already been viewed over 14 million times. Another post compared Tanner’s look to “if Burning Man had a baby with a Whole Foods receipt.”

Fashion experts have chimed in. Clara Nüüd, editor of *Runway Apocalypse*, wrote, “Tanner’s disintegration was the most honest thing to happen to fashion since the Met Gala accidentally booked a middle school field trip.” Others were less kind. A fashion blogger from Brooklyn simply posted, “My eyes are suing.”

Coachella organizers responded by issuing a statement: “We support sustainable fashion. However, we advise attendees to test outfits under controlled UV conditions before attempting full-day wear in the Sonoran desert.”

Tanner has since launched a GoFundMe titled “Help Me Rebuild My Wardrobe and My Dignity,” which has raised $38.67 and several unsolicited offers for tattoo removal. He’s also received a cease-and-desist from a crypto wallet company claiming trademark infringement for the tattoo design. “They said my body is now illegal,” he muttered while sipping kombucha through a metal straw shaped like a snake.

As for what’s next, Tanner says he’s “leaning into the collapse,” and plans to release a zine called *Threadbare: The Art of Vulnerable Fashion.* It will feature photos of his outfit’s final moments, annotated with quotes from climate activists, failed tech bros, and the woman who gave him the tattoo “after one too many mushroom lattes.”

“I think I’m finally free,” Tanner said, standing atop a compostable beanbag. “Not from judgment, obviously, but like… metaphorically. I’m in my cocoon phase. Metamorphosis. You know?”

When asked if he regretted anything, Tanner paused. “Only that I didn’t wear sunscreen. And maybe the QR code I shaved into my chest hair.”

Auf Wiedersehen, amigos.
