Dorm Room Sandals Mistaken for Training Camp Footwear by TSA Agents
Boston Logan Airport was briefly thrown into chaos yesterday after TSA agents detained a Harvard sophomore for wearing what they described as “radical open-toed combat sandals,” allegedly resembling “Taliban-issued Birkenstocks.”
Arjun Qureshi, a pre-med student whose biggest political act was switching to oat milk, was pulled aside at security while en route to a dermatology conference. His crime? Wearing orthopedic Velcro sandals purchased from a CVS clearance bin.
A TSA agent, reportedly trained via a PowerPoint titled “Footwear of Fury,” explained:
“We saw aggressive Velcro straps and toe exposure. That’s usually how sleeper cells get cozy.”
Eyewitnesses say the sandals—worn with socks—sparked confusion when paired with a “Free Palestine, Free Wi-Fi” hoodie and a copy of Organic Chemistry for People Who Cry A Lot.
TSA bomb-sniffing dogs did not react. However, a TSA supervisor insisted,
“It’s not just about smell. It’s about aura. These sandals had… ambition.”
Fox News quickly aired a segment titled “Are America’s Feet Turning on Her?” with a chyron reading: “EXTREMIST ARCH SUPPORT?”
Qureshi was released after a three-hour interrogation involving sandal dissection, a background check on his sock drawer, and a review of his Spotify playlist (“mostly Bon Iver”).
Meanwhile, TSA has launched a new footwear profiling initiative:
“If the shoe fits and it looks suspicious, it must be… terrorism.”
Harvard issued a statement:
“Our students’ footwear should not be judged as acts of war. But yes, Arjun’s style is criminal.”
The sandals are now being held in an undisclosed facility and may be waterboarded with Febreze.
